RAGGAMUFFIN is back, and is bigger and better in 09 with nine great bands and over ten hours of music, as well as a huge new café/bar, kid’s zone and village market area with trees to picnic under and plenty of free activities offering loads more family fun.

Tickets are still available from Ticketmaster - www.ticketmaster.co.nz, ph 0800 111 999 - and as well as group and family discounts deals, corporate tickets are now available.

Here are some pointers for the big day: -

What to bring:  Sunscreen, sun-hat, blanket, ID for those over 18, smiles and good vibes!

What not to bring:  Glass, cans, alcohol, chilly bins, umbrellas, deck chairs, professional cameras, weapons or anything that could be used as such, illegal substances, gang patches or colours.  Please note that there will be bag searches before entering the stadium.  No pass-outs will be issued and no smoking is allowed in the seated areas or grandstand.

Bars:
The venue caterers - http://www.compass-group.co.nz/ - are in charge of the bars and food outlets and are required to wristband anyone over 18 years of age wishing to purchase alcohol or enter the bar area.  Wristbands will be available outside the venue before the gates open and also at six convenient ID outlets inside the venue.

The bars will operate with vouchers only - no cash.  Water and other non-alcoholic drinks will be available at other outlets around the venue for cash.  The bar will only serve up to 4 drinks per transaction. Vouchers will cost $5 each and can be purchased separately or in books of 4 ($20 value).  They can only be used at the bar not at the food outlets.  The vouchers are non-redeemable after the bar closes and the bar will close at the start of the evening’s final act.

Children:
Children must be accompanied by a parent or care-giver at all times.  There will be a fun kid’s zone complete with a face painter, a bouncy castle and other fun activities, for children to hang out and go crazy in until 5pm .  Whilst there will be security in this area we cannot accept responsibility for unaccompanied children.  If you do get separated from your child there will be a lost children and items area in the media tower on the main field… which is also where the police will be based.

ALI CAMPBELL JOINS THE BILL!
F
ollowing the success of his solo album Running Free, Ali Campbell will return to New Zealand in February to join the Raggamuffin music festival in Rotorua on Waitangi weekend 2009.

Ali Campbell and UB40 headlined the inaugural festival earlier this year for the band’s final New Zealand show together. Since then, the legendary voice of UB40 has been touring with his own 9-piece band called the Dep band (which also features ex-UB40 keyboardist Michael Virtue) plus a hot lineup of seasoned reggae players.

“I am really looking forward to Raggamuffin. I will be bringing my new band, the Dep band to join next year’s fantastic line up. The first festival was awesome, the crowds were great and we all enjoyed the tour enormously,” Ali said. “We’re looking forward to playing some tracks from Running Free, as well as some of the classic hits along the way.”

Promoter Andrew McManus Presents regrets to advise that Stephen Marley has had to withdraw from the tour due to a knee injury. Stephen’s European tour has also been cancelled, as he is under doctor’s orders to rest his knee whilst awaiting surgery. It is hoped Stephen will join the 2010 Raggamuffin line-up.

As lead singer with the world-renowned group UB40, Ali Campbell sold over 60 million records worldwide, has toured across the globe, notched up four number 1 world-wide singles, over 40 Top 40 UK singles, released 24 albums and received an Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement. A whole generation has grown up listening to Ali’s infectious vocals on classics like One in Ten, Red Red Wine, Don’t Break My Heart and Can’t Help Falling In Love. Running Free, released in October 2007, features guest artists including Smokey Robinson, Mick Hucknall and Sly & Robbie. The album went top ten in the UK, and attained gold status. In January this year, Ali announced his departure from UB40, after 28 years with the band, due to management and business disputes, which are part of an ongoing investigation.

Ali and the Dep band have toured solidly this year visiting countries from Russia to Africa to Europe. He is currently working on his next solo album Flying High due for release next year. Whether as part of UB40 or in his solo career, Ali has always stayed true to his love of reggae and its ongoing capacity for innovation, the music that first inspired him and continues to do so, to this day.

He will join -
Ziggy Marley, Eddy Grant, Shaggy, Arrested Development, Inner Circle, Kora, Unity Pacific, & Three Houses Down for the Raggamuffin music festival on WAITANGI WEEKEND, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 7 at ROTORUA INTERNATIONAL STADIUM.

The announcement of a star-studded line-up of nine international and New Zealand bands for Rotorua's 2009 Raggamuffin reggae festival is expected to see tickets in big demand when they go on sale at 9am on Monday morning [25 August].

Events & Venues Rotorua general manager, Peter McLeod, says Raggamuffin will be one of the country's top music festivals this summer, and a repeat sell-out is on the cards after last year's hugely successful music feast.

"We're stoked that Raggamuffin is coming back to Rotorua on Waitangi weekend [Saturday 7 February] as fans throughout the country have been waiting anxiously for news of another concert. The 2008 inaugural festival attracted over 30,000 people from throughout the country and, given the big names on the bill, we anticipate fans will be eager to get in early and secure tickets for the 2009 event". He says that with nine acclaimed bands and more than ten hours of music, Raggamuffin is becoming one of the world's major reggae events.

Promoter 'Andrew McManus Presents' has signed Bob Marley's eldest son Ziggy Marley; along with enduring chart topper Eddy Grant; Jamaican-born American artist Shaggy who has sold 20 million albums to date; Arrested Development who return from last year's Raggamuffin, Jamaican band Inner Circle; and another of the Marley offspring, six times Grammy award winner Stephen Marley. They are joined on the bill by highly regarded Kiwi bands Kora, United Pacific and Three Houses Down.

"It's great that Rotorua will play host to two of Bob Marley's sons, Ziggy and Stephen, over the weekend that celebrates the King of Reggae's birthday," says Mr McLeod "Next year's February 7 Raggamuffin festival will be even bigger and better than the 2008 show and we're substantially increasing the number of food and beverage outlets to cope with the extensive crowd expected to descend on Rotorua International Stadium for a day of solid reggae, dub, soul, funk and hip-hop."

Raggamuffin tickets go on sale at 9am on Monday (25 August) at the Rotorua Convention Centre's Ticketmaster office, other Ticketmaster outlets throughout the country, and online from www.ticketmaster.co.nz.

Adult general admission starts at $95 and $125 for grandstand seating.
